A Way-Ward trailblazer with an instinct for ecological collaboration. My works are varied but chorded to one another by conscientiously crafted narratives—to see ourselves for what we are and grasp nothing: fruit on the branch of a tree—a tree of the forest.

A large, wall-hanging textile piece, in the style of a medieval tapesrty. Inspired by the musical album, 'I Care Not', by Jack Calum Richardson, 'The Laden Land' translates into thread and colour what had first been birthed in song.

Open-air sculpture // Architectural land art

A hayfeverish and idiosyncratic interpretation of a Confirmation ritual, SKEPTICKLE takes the form of a massive, partially sunken, skep-like mound, situated at the centre of a wildflower-meadow-labyrinth at Franconia Sculpture Park. Beyond the burrowed entrance, ascending stepping stones encircle the body of a dead birch tree. Cemented into the netherworld this axis-mundi stretches to a skylight at the top of the structure. The encircling stones lead up to a window at the back of the tomb revealing the entrance to a secret garden. The garden features crumbling statues, remnants of the archetypes. The only remaining head of these silent idols is sewn with seed from the meadow. SKEPTICLE was supposed to come to life over the coming years, being reclaimed by the wildflower meadow and offering a quiet sanctuary to anyone brave enough to traverse the underworld. However, it was consumed in flames before its first spring. The fire, along with flight restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, disabled my return to perform a sight-specific and interactive play.

Interactive sculpture puzzle // Performance

Musing on the Eucharist, and stretching the definition of Holy Communion, this interactive and performative sculpture puzzle was created for Playzone – a larger group exhibit of sensory artworks in the Corn Exchange Building as part of the Edinburgh Art Fair. ‘First Supper’ anthropomorphises interpreted personalities from a selection of locally foraged medicinal herbs by planting them in the heads of crumbling clay archetypes inspired by Jungian psychology. ‘Klu’, the blue-nosed, mossy mute charged with tending these amnesic statues, playfully prompts the audience and oversees the show. Read what the archetypes have to say for themselves and follow the clues to learn who and what they are, both as medicinal plants and as symbolic reflections of our human nature. In helping the archetypes on their journey of self-discovery you may find you have started upon or trundled along on your own. Together help Klu brew a potion of individuation to be shared among anyone and everyone willing to seek it.
