Jessica Hulme, also known as Aroha Jecka, is a Māori Sāmoan indigenous artist from Aotearoa New Zealand, whose work is deeply inspired by the vastness and richness of Moana Nui Ā Kiwa. With a background in architecture and experience in post-disaster reconstruction in the Pacific, Jessica’s art reflects the resilience, strength, and unique cultural identity of her people. Her creations celebrate the enduring spirit of Moana Nui Ā Kiwa, while addressing the critical issues of climate change, colonization, and contemporary political challenges. Through her art, Jessica pays tribute to the resilience of her heritage, showcasing the vibrant stories and cultural legacy of the Pacific people.
