Bio

Teresa Godfrey is a full-time artist based in Co Fermanagh, N Ireland.
She is an alumnus of the Art2Life Creative Visionary Programme 2024 and is currently a member of the Art2Life Academy. She is also a member of Visual Artists Ireland and The Irish Palette Artists Collective.
Teresa left school at sixteen and began a career as a Draughtsman in various engineering and architectural offices before entering university as a mature student and gaining a BSc Hons in Geography and an MA in Documentary Film Production.
She continued her interest in drawing and art by regularly attending Life Drawing classes and Fine Art courses at Belfast Metropolitan College, The Crescent Arts Centre Belfast, The South West Regional College Enniskillen, and Strule Arts Centre Omagh.
Teresa is also a published poet, novelist, award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker. Her written work has been broadcast on UK radio and her films have been produced on UK’s Channel 4 Television.

Artist’s Statement
As an artist, my work is both deeply personal and inherently universal—a reflection of my emotions, experiences, and concerns, expressed through colour, shape, and form. For me, art is a language that transcends barriers, offering a powerful means of connection and communication.
My process is rooted in exploration. I often begin with a single colour as a foundation—a starting point to build upon—and allow the piece to evolve organically. I work in bold, bright, and intense hues, using them to hyper-intensify meaning and draw the viewer’s eye. The interplay of complementary and contrasting colours creates a visual rhythm, with forms emerging and shifting as I mould meaning onto the canvas. My practice is a balance of structure and intuition, where both figurative and abstract elements converge to create works that feel alive with energy.
I draw my inspiration from multiple sources: the human form, the geometry of shapes, and the relationships between them. Sometimes, my work celebrates life itself—its vibrancy, movement, and joy. At other times, it explores more serious themes, such as how women are viewed and represented or humanity’s often fraught relationship with the natural world. Through my art, I aim to invite the viewer into a dialogue about the beauty, complexity, and challenges of the world we share.
Going forward, I’m keen to continue pushing the boundaries of my practice. I’m inspired to explore new combinations of forms and colours, delve deeper into abstract techniques, and expand on themes that reflect my evolving perspectives. Art is, and always has been, a process of discovery for me—an ongoing conversation between myself, my materials, and the world around me. Through this dialogue, I hope to connect, inspire, and leave an indelible mark.
