Original artwork. Oil on canvas. Inspired by a dreamscape where a man walks from a gallery towards his air hostess romantic attraction. The composition follows three characters where the perspective takes the viewer from near left to right in lower third and then to the surreal floating head of mother nature blowing whisps of love. There were several ideas that culminated in the inspiration for this painting. The first was a dream which inspired the landscape and gallery idea. The man in a 1950’s suit walking towards, and entering the ‘utopian’ landscape exists in both interior and exterior worlds. It is a dichotomy between this (internal) dystopian world and the prospect of another (external) utopian realm. He is being beckoned and greeted by a romantic love match with whom he was attracted – the woman in red. She also seems like an airline hostess, hence the runway into the distance. However, there is no plane to transport them. There is only hope. Hope for love and hope for a journey to a better place.

As a follow up to the previous painting in the series, this piece invites us to reflect on how we see, and how we're observed, and what might lie beneath even our most beautiful visions. A dreamscape statement about symbolism, counter-culture and surrealism. A vast psychedelic face mosaic floats in the sky, a lone figure wearing a green linen suit walks into a radiant sunset, passing a woman in a red swim suit with a parasol, and a building marked by an all-seeing eye — each element suggesting layers of perception, identity, and utopian ideology. Painted in oil with geometry and expressive colour, the work recreates elements from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. The shadows, figures, face and sky give a sense of serenity as well as tension — while other symbolic motifs, such as the all-seeing-eye might suggest something more dystopian in nature, whether that be real or imagined.
