About me My Profile Artwork
Bio
I'm a Chicago born artist .I started painting in my teens. I became inspired by the mother of a child I was babysitting . Mimio Brennan was an accomplished Portrait Painter born in France she ultimately became my mentor and I've been fascinated by portrait painting since. Still, not limited to portraits . I love to challenge myself in multiple directions. In my twenties , I was hired as a dental technician, after sculpting a tooth and clay. This led to further explore sculpting. I became fascinated by multimedia as well. I enjoyed taking what someone considers to be trash and turning it into art.
I'm fascinated with letting the analytical mind go, allowing the subconscious to manifest something out of nothing.
I was drawn to psychology, I took on a job as an activity therapist in a psychiatric facility. This allowed me to better understand what makes people tick. Realizing how repressed i was, coming from a dysfunctional family. My artistic expressions led me further to dance. Grateful for a three year scholarship,I explored the potential o movement. Going from dance to theater, opened up safe and healthy ways to express myself without fear. This, eventually, led to studying martial arts, much later in life. I accomplished two black belts. One in Aikido, and one in karate.
Life has taken me from Chicago to California finally settling in Arizona. From jobs and Psych and working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. This has increased my capacity for compassion and patience.
Other creative endeavors included restoring antiques to painting huge Elizabethan tapestry like paintings, for the Hotel San Diego and making designs for a T-Shirt company.
Spiritual practices have always been a part of my life. After testing out a number of religions, I find that belief in God is at the core, and I developed an understanding that I am soul, inhabiting a physical body. Spiritual exercises have opened up my awareness beyond the physical realm.
Favorite artists include Francois Boucher, Michael Parks, Salvador Dali , to name a few. As a goal, I want to take more risks as an artist. Learning about other cultures, the way in which people live, fascinates me. I'd love to travel more .
