Juana Alicia has been creating murals, prints, sculptures, illustrations, and studio paintings for forty years. Her work addresses social justice issues, gender, environmental crisis, and the power of resistance. She holds degrees in education and fine art and has taught at diverse schools and universities, maintaining studio and public art practices. Juana Alicia has received a Fulbright Fellowship, a California Arts Council Individual Legacy Fellowship, and many other recognitions.
