Bio

James Flowerdew is an artist/illustrator/writer from Edinburgh, Scotland.

His works often reflect on the conflict between inner or spiritual realities and the external forces of society and material existence. Gods and Angels roaming our dusty streets. Princes and Princesses queueing at the job centre.

James has frequently exhibited in galleries and public spaces, including solo shows and live performances.

A rethink of the priestess tarot card, where instead of a matronly pose the priestess is in the Egyptian praising pose. Here she is Isis or Weset and wears a sun disk headdress that also features the horns of Hathor. The original plan was actually not to do a tarot card, but that is a project that I'm working on separately so I guess it permeated through. The result is far nicer, I think, than the image that I will end up using, bot not in keeping with the style, and not particularly traditional, which is very much my aim.

the machine room has two figures, one of them looking fairly emotionally fragile. It started abstract, and the figures crept in. Places and objects in here are not particularly glamorous but neither are they malevolent. If anything they open the door to contemplation. I am actually fairly ambivalent abotu industrial backdrops, again sometimes finding a peace in them.
