From Bogota, Colombia, a self-taught artist with an undergraduate diploma in Geology. Camilo has had an interest in figurative narration since childhood. Because of his admiration for French authors of “bande dessinée”, he left Colombia in 2002 to follow a path in illustration and comic art in France. After some years of activity in France, Camilo left Europe to immigrate to Canada in 2007.
Dark, melancholic, nostalgic, as well as strong and expressive could be the words that prove more exact when describing the paintings and drawings that the artist has developed in recent times. His plastic research is a continuous quest for a figurative language that involves deep psychological imprints and a large variety of elements from popular culture. We can find in his painting hybrid elements of Latin America's “Chespirito’s” Mexican imagery mixed with post-apocalyptic and more lovecraftian contemporary universes.
“I am obsessed, almost haunted with the past and melancholia at the same time with the aging and the dead as a perpetual driver of the deepest human force. These elements will always be reflected in the chaos of my characters, environments and scenes”.
