'As the daughter of an abstract impressionist painter, a career as an artist felt inevitable to me.'
My work is mostly figurative in realism and illustrative styles with dynamic contrasts.
You can find an extensive range of materials used in my practice from pencils to digital mediums. I particularly love using oils and to then rework and the paintings digitally to give the work new qualities.
The art I create aims to be uplifting, indicating elements of personal growth and a positive outlook for the viewer through symbolism and cultural imagery. I believe that visual art is as effectively as words to influence the conscious and subconscious mind, and I explore this idea as I develop concepts for new pieces.
Gemma Stylz was born in Lambeth London In 1982. Currently based in rural NSW, Australia, she is passionate about pursuing a life and career as an artist. Working in a wide range of mediums with a preference for Oils, she has an extensive portfolio of work on paper in traditional pencil mediums and uses photoshop, procreate and Clip studio to paint in digital mediums, experimenting with Web3 ready artwork.
Specialising in figurative illustration, wildlife and portraiture with detailed embellishments, the style of work she creates has been established from 19 years as a custom tattoo artist, working and studying at seminars in New Zealand, Japan, Canada, the USA, Australia and the UK. After recently owning and operating Great Lakes Studio in NSW, and is now dedicating time to producing fine art and freelance graphics services.
Back in the UK, Gemma completed two Higher National Diplomas in Fine Art and Illustration with merits and distinctions at Northbrook College, graduating in 2006. Current known works are held in private collections internationally. She thrives in consistently exceeding clients expectations worldwide and continues to challenge her technical abilities.
