Francisco Badilla (Chile, 1974), based in Porto, Portugal, is a visual artist trained in Fine Arts in Chile, with studies in Painting and Drawing at The Art Students League of New York (USA) and a Master’s Degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto.
His work unfolds within a figurative language influenced by American Impressionism, in dialogue with a contemporary aesthetic. His paintings explore physical and psychological spaces where figures reveal everyday life with simplicity, melancholy, and hope. Windows and sources of light become symbolic portals of desire and transcendence.
Inspired by luminists such as Sargent, Sorolla, and Zorn, as well as contemporary realists like Jenny Saville and Alex Kanevsky, Badilla works in oil on canvas, using loose and expressive brushstrokes. He maintains his studio in Porto, where he also teaches drawing and painting.
