Details: This artwork was inspired by a spring journey to Japan. It weaves together several iconic symbols of Japanese culture — Mount Fuji, the torii path leading to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto, and the dragon, an ancestral emblem of protection and prosperity. In the middle, a full bloom of cherry tree with its flowers beginning to fall, evoking the fleeting beauty of the season. Two Japanese words frame the composition: 花見 (hanami), the contemplation of blossoms, and 物哀 (mono no aware), the poignant awareness of the impermanence of beauty and the nostalgia it brings.
